Event Details

Salem, Oregon – Experience America’s soundtrack with Willamette University’s Pacific Rim Symphony Orchestra (PRSO). Under Maestra Qian, our student and community member orchestra presents “Soundscape of America”—a powerful, non-stop journey through the music that defines a nation.

The concert opens with the joyful, folk-driven energy of Brian Balmages’ “Blue Ridge Reel,” painting a picture of the Appalachian landscape. The journey then expands to the cosmos with the awe-inspiring wonder of John Williams’ themes from “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.” Without pause, the orchestra shifts seamlessly into the sophisticated swing and blues of a Duke Ellington medley, capturing the heart of the jazz age. The performance builds to a passionate, dramatic finale with selections from Leonard Bernstein’s iconic “West Side Story,” bringing the urban soundscape to life.

Come support your local musicians and witness the incredible talent that thrives right here in Salem. This is more than a concert; it’s a showcase of our shared spirit and passion.

No-cost admission.
