Event Details

Salem Concert Band will present the world première of An Oregon Journey by Eric Ewazen. The work celebrates the spectacular beauty of Oregon, from a rainstorm in the Willamette Valley, to a sunny day in Central Oregon’s high dessert and the snowy slopes of the majestic Mount Hood. The concert will also include Ewazen’s Celestial Dancers, inspired by his visit to the temples at Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Ewazen will journey to Oregon for this performance from his home in New York, where he has been a faculty member at the Julliard School since 1980, teaching music theory and composition.

The concert will also feature the US première of Gigue Qui Pique from Fanfares Festives sur les fantasmes Fantômatiques de Monsieur Maurice by Bart Piqueur. This performance will be filmed as part of the Walgreens Red Nose Day fundraiser, raising funds for childrens charities. Audience members are invited to join in the fun, get a red nose and wear it for our performance of this unusual arrangement of Ravel’s Bolero.

Other works on the concert will include Riften Wed by Julie Giroux and Resplendent Glory by Rossano Galante.

John Skelton will conduct the band in this conclusion of our 42nd season.
